In accordance with Dr. Howard Gardner, a professor at Harvard College, we have to transcend the ”IQ” as a measure of intelligence. He means that there are not less than eight intelligences (presumably 9), together with: Phrase Good, Quantity/Logic Good, Image Good, Music Good, Physique Good, Nature Good, Individuals Good, and Self Good. At ninth intelligence is likely to be what I name Life Good (Dr. Gardner calls it ”existential intelligence” – the intelligence of concern with final life points).
The issue is that the colleges principally give attention to the primary two intelligences on this checklist and neglect (or give scant consideration) to the opposite six. This turns into an issue for teenagers who will not be so extremely developed in these two intelligences, however present presents in a number of of the opposite intelligences. Over the previous thirty-five years as an educator, I’ve been significantly fascinated by the Image Good little one, who processes info via each internal and outer photos. This little one could also be ”in danger” for being labeled as ”dyslexic” or ”studying disabled” (and even ADHD), and but present distinct presents as a picture learner.
There isn’t any purpose why the colleges can’t train to the Image Good scholar. They’ll do one thing as simple as ask children to visualization what they’ve simply learn or discovered. They’ll use 3-D fashions of the skeletal system, the DNA molecule, or the photo voltaic system. They’ll have children drawing their concepts in addition to writing them down. Increasingly more of our tradition past faculty includes image and picture cognition (e.g. biogenetics, cosmology, engineering, web site design and many others.). If we actually need to put together our youngsters for the twenty first century (which is sort of 1/4 over!), then we must be empowering them with Image Good studying methods, and that is true for all children.
